Experiences FAQ
How does the beachside picnic work?

The beachside picnic is a great option to make your beach day extra special and unforgettable. Your picnic price includes:

  • Rug and comfy pillows for seating
  • Boho beach umbrella
  • Low table
  • Dishes, cutlery and glasses
  • Table scapes (includes decor, runners, beads, candles, etc.)
  • Brunch or Lunch Charcuterie Bento Box (see photos for menu details; gluten free and allergy requests can be accommodated)
  • Flat or sparkling water for each guest
  • A fresh bouquet of flowers
  • Bluetooth speaker
  • Cooler with ice (enjoy for the full day!)

Our picnic coordinator will reach out to you after booking providing you with your color scheme options as well as selecting between our brunch or lunch charcuterie boxes. We will check the tides and let you know of the available start times for your event, typically between 10am and 1pm.

What are in the bento boxes for the picnic?

Each individual picnic participant has their choice of a brunch or lunch style bento box. Specific items in both are not fixed, but in general the brunch bento box includes:

  • pastry
  • soft-boiled egg
  • fresh fruit
  • nuts
  • a soft and hard cheese
  • charcuterie
  • crackers
  • dried fruit

The lunch bento box includes:

  • soft-boiled egg
  • fresh fruit
  • fresh veggies
  • nuts
  • cheese variety
  • charcuterie variety
  • crackers
  • dried fruit
What if there are dietary restrictions or food allergies for the picnic?

We can accommodate most any dietary restriction or food allergy requirement related to the bento boxes.

For vegetarians, the charcuterie will simply be substituted with a little more of everything else.

For gluten free requests, the box already comes gluten free, the one exception being crackers which are served on the side, and those will be substituted with gluten free crackers.

For vegans, the menu will simply be more restrictive, focusing on fruit, veggies, nuts, and dried fruit. If there’s something special you have in mind let us know. While we can’t accommodate every request, we will try our best!

What if weather is an issue for the beachside picnic?

Being an outdoor-based service, weather is always going to be a factor and so we’ve implemented a cancellation policy specific for picnics that tries to mitigate these concerns to the best of our ability.

Picnic Cancellation Policy:

As an outdoor-based event, beachside picnics come with the risk of inclement weather on the day of service. By booking a beachside picnic, you are acknowledging this risk and agreeing to the terms and conditions of the cancellation policy and understand that all cancellation requests for beachside picnics, regardless of circumstance, will strictly follow the terms as set forth.

Cancellation requests for any reason can be submitted up to 48 hours prior to service date to be eligible for a full refund less a 25% cancellation fee.

Cancellation requests between 24 and 48 hours of service date (by 9:30am) are ONLY to be considered in the event of potential inclement weather on the day/time of service. If it is determined inclement weather may be an issue, whenever possible, we will try to reschedule the event or, alternatively, cancel for a full refund less a 30% cancellation fee.

Within 24 hours, if inclement weather should prohibit the picnic from taking place, where no rescheduling time or date is available, a refund will be issued less a 50% cancellation fee and a ‘to-go’ picnic will be provided for pickup from Folly Beach. The ‘to-go’ picnic will include all food and drinks originally to be provided for the event.

Can you explain the picnic cancellation policy in layman's terms?

Picnics are solely an outdoor-based event and therefore weather is always going to be a factor that is entirely outside of yours and our control. With any outdoor activity, there is always a chance for bad weather. For this reason we have worked hard to provide flexibility in our cancellation policy for our customers. It is up to YOU to take the necessary steps within the specified time period if you feel that the weather is going to be an issue on your picnic date and time. We are going to always uphold our policies, regardless of the circumstance, and so by booking you are agreeing to our policies and acknowledging the risks you are choosing to take as it relates to the weather.

Whether you book your beachside picnic months in advance or days in advance, it is up to YOU to keep an eye on the weather for your event day. Folly Beach has something the locals term the ‘Folly Bubble’ as the island is often blessed with better weather and less rain than nearby areas further inland. It is not uncommon to be pouring 10 minutes inland while Folly Beach has clear skies. It is also common, as a coastal town, to have an afternoon storm come through quickly then clear up, leaving even more beautiful weather in its wake.

If you are concerned about the weather on your picnic day we recommend checking reliable weather apps, WeatherBug being one that we recommend. Daily weather forecasts are not very reliable several days out, often calling for a 50% chance of rain every day of the week, but as the day approaches, the forecast will become more reliable. Furthermore, while the daily forecast may say 70% chance of rain, if you instead check the HOURLY forecast for that day you may see that the rain is only going to happen very early in the morning or late at night, while the middle of the day calls for 0% chance of rain. Checking the hourly forecast as opposed to the daily one will likely be more helpful when planning your beach day.

If you need to cancel your booking for any reason, including weather concerns, then you have until 48 hours prior to service start time on your reservation date to cancel. You will receive a full refund less an automatic 25% cancellation fee. For example, if you have a Saturday picnic booked then you would have to send an email request for cancellation no later than 9:30 am on Thursday morning to be eligible for the refund.

Between 24 and 48 hours prior to your picnic date the only cancellation requests we will even consider is if the weather forecast is calling for likely inclement weather. In this case we will try our best to reschedule the event for a different time or day without penalty. If we determine a weather cancellation is acceptable then you will receive a full refund less a 30% cancellation fee.

Once the picnic day arrives we will be keeping an eye on the weather and forecast for the picnic time. If we determine inclement weather has made the event impossible to take place, and no rescheduling option is possible, we will provide a 50% refund in addition to all food and drinks originally planned for the picnic. You will have to arrange for transportation to pick these items up from our Folly Beach location.

How does the private yoga instruction work?

After booking you will be contacted by our local provider to schedule the time for the yoga class. Recommended start time is around 10am before the heat sets in, and if you’re coming from outside Folly Beach, prior to when traffic starts to pick up.

Do we need to bring yoga mats?

No! If your class is at the beach, just bring a beach towel to use as a mat. If your class is at your vacation rental, we will bring mats for your group (max 12).

What should we wear for beach yoga?

Wear whatever is comfortable for you! Some clients like to wear traditional yoga clothes, while others lean-in to the beach vibe and wear swimsuits/cover-ups.

Other than beach towels, anything else we should bring for class?

We recommend bringing a water bottle and a hat/sunglasses. As for sunscreen, careful not to apply too much right before class. In the heat, combined with a little sweat, it can drip and get in your eyes. Ouch.

What skill level do I need to participate in the yoga class?

The yoga class is suited for all ability levels! There is always variations of different poses to suit your skill level. This class, unless requested otherwise, is about relaxation and rejuvenation and therefore you don’t need to be mentally preparing for a challenging workout or anything like that.

Where do surf lessons take place?

Surf lessons take place at the 3 West Beach access. And yes, we can set up your beach chairs and umbrellas over there so you can stay in one spot for the day. If you are set up at our main location by the pier, 3 West is a 5-10 minute walk down the beach from our main spot, not far at all.

What is the youngest age for surf lessons?

Children must be 5 years old or older, but a lot depends on the child’s swimming capability and comfort level in the water.

Are the waves in Folly Beach good?

The surf at Folly Beach is perfect for beginners, and depending on your ability and experience we can take you surfing in nearly all conditions.

Do you offer surfing lessons year-round?

Yes, the water in Charleston is extremely warm for most of the year. Once it does start to cool down, we provide wetsuits.

What if it's raining at the time of my surf lesson?

Surfing in the rain is fun! We run lessons rain or shine; however, if lightning storms are present, we will cancel your lesson.

What is the full cancellation policy for surf lessons?

We will issue a full refund for cancellations with 48 hour notice (less the non-refundable fee paid upon booking),  a 50% refund for cancellations 24-48 hours prior to activity start time, and no refunds issued for cancellations within the 24 hour period of activity start times.

How does the fishing charter work?

The inshore fishing charter is 4 full hours in which you’ll be casting in the tidal creeks and waterways surrounding Folly beach. All bait, license, and tackle are included. You’ll meet your captain at the Folly River Boat Ramp. If you are staying at a house with a dock and river access he can pick you up from your rental location on Folly instead.

A cooler with ice is available onboard and you are welcome to bring additional drinks or food items (no glass). Water is also provided and we encourage you to bring your own large refillable bottle.

What type of fish might we catch on our charter?

Inshore species you’ll be targeting include red drum, black drum, spotted sea trout, flounder, ladyfish, and when the conditions are right, trophy bull reds.

What skill level do you need for a fishing charter?

Whether you’re a novice or expert, the charter will be catered to your skill level. Our captain is also extremely knowledgeable about the local area and wildlife and so you are guaranteed to also learn fascinating information about our local ecology during your trip.

What is the cancellation policy for the Fishing Charter, Sunset Dolphin Tour, and Sharks Teeth & Fossil Adventure??

Cancellation requests 7 or more days from charter date incur a 25% cancellation fee. Cancellations 6 days or less from charter date incur a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 48 hours prior to charter date as well as no-shows are non-refundable.

WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY:
Weather cancellations are at the discretion of the captain. We will try to reschedule for an alternative day and time. Full payment will be refunded if weather forces the cancellation of a trip less the 3% processing fee.

What does the sunset charter entail?

You and up to 5 friends or family members will enjoy a relaxing cruise around the tidal creeks and waterways of Folly Beach. Along the way your captain will be telling you all about the history of the area and local ecology. As you work your way back to the drop off you’ll get to admire one of the stunning sunsets we are often blessed with along with gaining a greater understanding and appreciation for our vital local ecosystem.

A cooler with ice is available onboard and you are welcome to bring additional drinks or food items (no glass).
